USFK Good Deeds

I would hope being willing to fight and die for South Korean society at a moment's notice would count for something (but it doesn't) - Here are some community-related Good Deeds USFK volunteers do from time-to-time month-after-month that don't make it into the Korean newspapers.

Pro-US / USFK Rally

Korean society wants the US military and export market to remain as it is.

Only a small percentage of "radicals" want GIs to leave.

But, only a small percentage of older Koreans like to have positive thoughts about the US-SK Relationship.

A large chung of South Korean Nationalism is based on wanting to use the US but dislike its "interference" in Korean society at the same time.

Economic issues are a big, gapping hole on this site.

Uncle Sam Bully trade pressure making life difficult for South Koreans, harming the Korean economy ----- has been one of the best long-term methods for putting pressure on the US position in South Korea.

Like "environmental crimes", "GI Crimes", and "the evil SOFA" items, US trade pressure is one of the issues that crosses over from the radical minority to the masses as a whole.  It is used by politicians, the media, and so on.

So - why have I failed to cover it?

Because, I have never believed I could point out how South Korea's "anti-globalization" culture is --- in point of fact --- different from what my readers would know from such culture in the US or EU or elsewhere.  Meaning - I believe most readers would lump the material I present on Korea's anti-free trade activities in with what they know from elsewhere in the world and not recognize how it is a unique, anti-American tradition in Korean society that is perhaps different from, say, in France.

But, today, I want you to take a look at just 1 editorial that will give a glimpse of what I would try to point out if I ever felt confident in my ability to lay out the "Uncle Bully" "economic pressure" building block in anti-US/USFK culture in SK for you to witness.
